Filling Up the Tank

It's that time of year again, time to fill up the tank... semen tank that is!

As the first group of 2014 born calves near two months of age and the second group is currently calving, that means breeding decisions for next year's calf crop need to be made. Today I picked up the straws of semen that will be used on my select groups of heifers and cows this year.

Breeding cattle is a slow process - the decisions you make today when you breed take approximately 285 days to come to life and numerous months beyond that to grow into a calf that can be sold or kept in the herd. That means a lot is riding on what I put in my tank today!

So which bulls have a coveted spot on my sire list this spring? Here's the line-up of AI bulls that will be siring my 2015 calf crop: Comfort Zone, Walks Alone, Man Among Boys, Monopoly Money, Choppin Wood and the original famed bull; Monopoly! Now that's some precious cargo right there!

Stay tuned for more details of the 2014 calves that are currently arriving and what matings I have planned for 2015!
